Gor Mahia players finally returned to training after a three-day standoff that saw their trip to Nigeria for the invitational Coal City tournament cancelled.

Gor players boycotted training last week after their demand to have a share of the Sh5 million prize money was rejected following the FKF Premier League victory.

Club’s chairman Ambrose Rachier told the players that their demands were not provided for in their contracts and were not entitled to the league-winning prize money.

The management further slapped them with formal show cause letters, ordering them to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for absconding duty, especially after their poor show at the Cecafa tournament last month in Tanzania.

Sources said that the players resumed training on Saturday morning at Mpesa Foundation grounds, albeit awaiting further direction.

The sources further revealed that the whole playing unit passed the fitness tests, which were later followed by intense passing drills and small-sided games. “Everything is back to normal,” the source noted.

K'Ogalo's new head coach Leonardo Neiva was impressed after the club won four accolades at the recent FKF Gala awards and hopes they will replicate the success against South Sudan’s Al Merrreikh in the CAF Champions League preliminaries on August 18 in Juba.

Meanwhile, Rachier has warned that the club’s official communication will only be handled by him and Secretary-General Ochola going forward.

“There is freedom of speech. However, the club's mouthpieces according to the constitution are the secretary general and myself. It is not my responsibility to announce the club’s AGM date; such information should  officially come from Ochola.”
