Manchester United WILL try to sign Viktor Gyokeres this month in a bid to save their season.
Ruben Amorim always had designs on bringing Gyokeres, 26, with him to Old Trafford after leaving his post at Sporting Lisbon back in November, although that transfer was pencilled in for next summer rather than in January.
But The Star are reporting those plans have changed, with Amorim telling the Manchester United hierarchy that they cannot afford to wait until the end of the season to land the Sweden international.

Both Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford could be on their way out of the club this month with the latter ready for a new challenge. Zirzkee has suitors in Italy, too, after enduring a difficult start to his United career.
It would likely cost around £80million to extract Gyokeres from Sporting in January due to a release clause in his contract. And while United could raise funds from player sales in the winter window, a deal for the former Coventry City man would have to be sanctioned by and the Glazers.
It's thought Sporting would demand the full amount of his release clause if they are to part with Gyokeres midway through the season amid suggestions he could be allowed to leave for a slightly smaller fee next summer.
Amorim and Gyokeres enjoyed a good working relationship at Sporting, where Gyokeres grew into one of Europe's most deadly strikers under the Portuguese coach.
After his move to United was announced in November, Amorim played down talk of a January swoop for Gyokeres. But with United struggling and among the Premier League's lowest scorers, he has been forced into a U-turn.
Gyokeres was also asked about a potential move to Manchester United shortly after Amorim's exit and said: “Going with Amorim to Man United? I don’t know, I’m here. I really like being here, it’s not something I think about.
I’m enjoying it here. I’m sad about him leaving. We wish him all the best.”
