After a significant commitment to gender equality and social empowerment in Cameroon, La Liga has turned its attention to Kenya by launching an ambitious project in Kibera Slums, Nairobi.
The initiative, dubbed La Ligue D' Egalite - Kenya was unveiled at the ParkInn Hotel in Nairobi marking a new chapter in La Liga’s efforts to foster positive change through sport.
At the heart of this project are 22 scholarships a beacon of hope for many young girls living in challenging conditions.

According to La Liga, the scholarships are designated for each team participating in the newly formed social football league to provide educational opportunities and support for girls who show exceptional commitment and attitude during training and matches.
Olga de la Fuente, Director of La Liga Foundation ( Fundación LaLiga) has emphasized the transformative potential of the initiative.
“The implementation of this social integration project through the values of football means providing real opportunities for personal and sporting growth to many girls in vulnerable situations. We’re profoundly grateful for the chance to contribute our bit to this inspiring project," she stated.
The project's development was spearheaded by La Liga's delegate in Kenya, Alvaro Abreu, who detailed the collaboration with local NGO IBL during the launch.
"This project is another example of La Liga, and its Fundacion's, commitment to the region, with the aim of adding value to society and empowering many young people and adults who have football as one of their main passions in life," he said.
"Additionally, the Kibera programme is a continuation of the Ligue D' Egalite project from Cameroon, and we want it to become a standard throughout the African continent in terms of supporting women's football and football development in general."
IBL's CEO, Erick Juma on his side expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership.
“It's fantastic news within a very complicated context. I've seen many girls forced to drop out of school and struggle with life's harsh realities due to their backgrounds and an environment that lacks basic needs and role models. Football can be a powerful tool for change, and we are thrilled that La Liga and Fundacion La Liga have decided to help transform our community and offer our girls a positive outlook for the future,” Juma remarked.
In addition to the scholarships, the initiative includes a comprehensive sports and education program that will reach over 400 girls.
The program integrates football with values such as companionship, tolerance, sportsmanship, and respect, aiming to enhance quality of life and community harmony.
Beyond the pitch, the girls will engage in community service activities, including litter picking and attending educational workshops on critical local issues like teenage pregnancy and menstrual hygiene.
Moreover, Fundación La Liga will also provide training for 25 local coaches using their Values to Win methodology, which teaches good values through football.
This initiative in Kenya is a continuation of the LaLigue D' Egalite project, which has been running successfully in Cameroon for the past three years aimed at establishing the first formal football league in the country for girls under 17 years of age.
