The Kenya U17 women’s football team, the Junior Starlets, has been eliminated from the ongoing U17 Women's World Cup in the Dominican Republic with one game still left to play.

Despite a spirited performance, back-to-back losses to England and North Korea dashed their hopes of advancing beyond the group stage.

Kenya's tournament began with a 2-0 loss to England on Friday morning, followed by a 3-0 defeat to North Korea on Sunday night.

These results left the Junior Starlets in a precarious position, relying on a Mexico victory over England in the other Group C match to stay in contention.

However, England’s 4-2 win over Mexico on Sunday sealed both Kenya's and Mexico's fates, eliminating them from the competition.

Mexico had earlier suffered a 4-1 defeat to North Korea on Friday.

Despite the elimination, the Junior Starlets made history by becoming the first-ever Kenyan football team to qualify for a World Cup, a landmark achievement for the nation’s football development.

Kenya will conclude their participation in the tournament on Thursday morning with their final group stage match against Mexico.

While their campaign may be over, the Junior Starlets leave the global stage with valuable experience and determination to improve in future competitions.
