Manchester United legend David de Gea remains without a club more than a year after his departure from Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag-led United made a bold decision of releasing the fan-favourite shot-stopper upon the expiration of his lucrative contract, as he struggled with the Dutch coach’s approach of building from the back.

Further, a few high-profile mistakes during the  2022/23 campaign only raised more questions about his ability to remain the number 1 at the club.

However, it has emerged that the veteran Spaniard was far from impressed with the Red Devils’ decision to not extend his stay in Manchester.

According to The Athletic, De Gea was upset with Ten Hag and United’s then-football director, John Murtough, the two figures he held responsible for his exit.

It is further claimed that the 33-year-old even told his “inner circle” that he would be open to returning to his former club if Ten Hag and Murtough were no longer there. The latter has now been replaced by Dan Ashworth.

United took little time in finding De Gea’s replacement, welcoming Ten Hag’s former Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan last summer.

After a tricky start to his career in England, Onana found his feet in the second half of the season and impressed with his proactive goalkeeping.

De Gea, meanwhile, continues to wait for a new club. At one point he even considered retiring from the game, but now he is keen on finding a new employer.

The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Spain international is expected to have

“news about his future next week.”

De Gea has reportedly received a number of offers, including one from an English club. However, he has no desire to return to the Premier League due to his long association with the Mancunian giants.

The goalkeeper’s priority is finding a club and a city best suited for him and his family. Options in the USA, Saudi Arabia, and Europe all remain on the table.
