The third set of European fixtures is here with us, with the Champions League taking priority across Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
Man Utd vs Copenhagen
Tuesday 24th October
After taking the lead at home to the mighty Bayern Munich, Copenhagen were pegged back by the Germans and in the end had to settle for a spirited 2-1 loss. This will have given them confidence, despite the negative result, that they can mix it with the best and the Manchester United of 2023 are a way off the best.
Expect the Danes to pose a threat in front of goal at Old Trafford and at times to outplay the Red Devils, much like Sheffield United did on the weekend. United have been finding a way of late and we expect them to score at home but Copenhagen are not an easy team to keep out on this year’s evidence.
Prediction: Man Utd 1-0 Copenhagen
Sevilla vs Arsenal
Tuesday 24th October
Sevilla host Arsenal in their next Champions League game and come in as big underdogs despite the home advantage. Arsenal have only won one of their last three games which is an unusual bit of form for the Gunners. Sevilla are in no better form themselves with three back-to-back draws.
This could still be a tough away day for Arsenal and it’s no easy place to come on a European day. Sevilla may be out of form but Arsenal have also looked shaky in their last few games, and you could get some decent value out of Sevilla in the double chance market.
Prediction: Sevilla 1-1 Arsenal
Newcastle vs Dortmund
Wednesday 25th October
Newcastle made an enormous statement in this competition last time out with a 4-1 thumping of PSG at St. James' Park. Home form has been a staple of The Toon's success under Eddie Howe, and that is a factor we expect to rock Dortmund when the German outfit rock up on Tyneside this Wednesday.
BVB have conceded in seven of their 11 matches this term and are yet to score a Champions League goal entering GW3. The hosts have pummelled a number of teams into submission already during this campaign, and we believe Edin Terzic's side are primed to be on the receiving end of another relatively heavy defeat this week.
Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Dortmund
Young Boys vs Man City
Wednesday 25th October
Manchester City got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday and now travel to Switzerland to take on Young Boys in the Champions League.
The visitors should have more than enough quality to continue their perfect record in Europe this season, but it is worth noting that they have now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five matches across all formats.
Both of City’s Champions League matches have finished 3-1 this term and a similar scoreline looks likely on Wednesday...
Prediction: Young Boys 1-3 Man City
