AFC Leopards is facing the possibility of losing its key assets, including the team bus, to the auctioneer’s hammer over money owed to former player Robert Mudenyu.

Mudenyu is seeking to recover Ksh991,000 awarded to him by the Sports Disputes Tribunal in December 2023 over unlawful termination of his contract and with Ingwe not paying up, he wants the club’s assets sold to get his money.

Leopards team bus is among assets that the defender is seeking to auction, the others being tables, computers, desks and other movable items.

The defender severed ties with Leopards before the start of the 2023-24 season, having joined the club in August 2019, but he had outstanding payment that he sought to be paid without success.

That promoted him to file a suit at the tribunal, which awarded the amount, but the 12-time Kenyan Premier League winners have not settled his dues, forcing his hand.

Leopards becomes the latest club to have their assets auctioned over delayed or nonpayment of dues owed to former players.

In May this year, Sofapaka had their team bus auctioned and sold for Ksh1 million by former players Michael Kibwage and Paul Kiongera, who were seeking to recover salary arrears from the football club.

Gor Mahia also had their team bus auctioned for Ksh1 million by former player Wellington Ochieng in March 2023 to recover money owed to him in salaries and signing-on fee.
